There are thirteen turtle species in Nicaragua: some of land, other of sea and others of swamp.
We will know them:
Sea turtles:
Tortuga boba (Caretta caretta)
Tortuga verde (Chelonia mydas)
Tortuga carey (Eretmochelys imbricata)
Tortuga laúd (Dermochelys coriacea). It is the largest of all sea turtles, reaching a length about 2 m and a weight about 600 kg
Land and swamp turtles:
Tortuga mordedora (o lagarto) (Chelydra serpentina)
Tortuga de tierra parda (Rhinoclemmys annulata)
Tortuga negra (Rhinoclemmys funerea)
Tortuga dragón o tortuga pintada de bosque (Rhinoclemmys puicherrima)
Tortuga pintada, tortuga escurridiza o jicotea (Trachemys scripta)
Tortuga de pantano de América Central (Kinosternon angustipons)
Tortuga de pantano de labios blancos (Kinosternon leucostomum)
Tortuga estuche (Kinosternon scorpioides)
